I've heard some people talking about evaluating their brood bitches to determine whether to keep her or not. How do you decide this? How many decent pups does she have to have for you to consider her valuable in your breeding program? Just curious.

For this kennel, I keep a lot of dogs rotating through. When I breed a female if she produces better than herself or a couple of females who are similar to her, I FH her and move on to the next generation. If I breed a bunch of girls at one time and I get a bunch of keepers out of the same batch that are better than most of the moms, I will fh all the original girls and move forward with the kids. One exception would be if she has a trait I am trying to reproduce. I would keep her until I got a couple with the needed trait. Will |

Exactly what Will said above. I have been doing just that, for years. Carol |
