After what seems like 11 or 12 litters, I finally got some black and brindle Afghan Hound pups. Two of them are for sale. Offer me $1 and send me a name.

Congrats.
Question:

Once you reach 100 , how do you choose which puppy to sell if they are all 100? Is it a crap shoot?

Basically yes. If they are all the same color and are SOP 100 I will keep #4 if it is the sex I want because it's my lucky #. Other than that, whatever. Usually they aren't all the same color and I try to have one of each color so that helps.

My Dalmatians (Fingerprint), well, pretty much all the fun has gone out of it. Keep one of each color of each sex, and that's it. And of course there is no point at all really in having dogs that only come in one color. I have a Samoyed but have no idea why. I thought maybe the old SOPs might help but it was too long ago and they don't help at all. So basically, crapshoot.

If anyone has any secret to how to tell which 100 SOP is better, I am all ears.

Well, I have too many kennels and too many dogs in them all to really come to any profound conclusion, but I have suggested this before. I have fairly reasonable results to support the process.

You keep everyone.
Feed everyone exactly the same.
Session everyone exactly the same.

When they are ready (or at 14 days) you enter everyone in the same show (preferably one that few others are entering).

Record how everyone does relative to the others.

Eventually, you will notice that "Joe" places higher than "Al" 3 times out of 5 and "Duke" places at the bottom of the group 4 out of 5 times.

If you are really diligent, you also might take note of the various judges trait ranking too: Duke may tend to do better under a judge with a high "Gait" rating (possibly indicating that "Duke" has a better "100" Gait than "Al"wink ;).

I was doing this with a group of GSD. After a few shows I felt pretty safe in FH half the group. I did not really do the judges priority influence comparisons.

Anyone wanting to try this, I'd love to hear what you found.

I think I have too many dogs in this kennel but I might try it in another one. Of course it would be OH shows. Hmmm.

Yes, no handlers. You would not necessarily need an owner judge as you are only really interested in how your own dogs place relative to each other but you'd want to eliminate the handler influence to get a true picture.

Gayle, that makes perfect sense.
I will keep that in mind when the day comes, for me.

Did you know?
The figure 8 exercise requires the team to heel in a figure 8 pattern either on or off leash. Generally two of the ring stewards will assist the judge with this exercise by acting as "posts", standing 8 feet apart, that the team walks around to form the loops of the figure 8.
