Important News!

On 4/15/08 I had my first ever BIS show placement on Showdog period, and first BIS placement in this kennel, with Ch Gunmetal You Ain't Seen Nothing. Granted, it was a small show, but it's a nice feeling after almost 3 years of playing this game to have a BIS happy :)

Dogs Of Distinction:

Ch Gunmetal Stray From The Path is one in a million. He came to me in May of 2006, after the stat-change, and just after I had begun really getting into my breeding program. At 86.5% he was the #1 dog on skipwall for a long time, until his own offspring finally displaced him. I specialed Stray up until the day he turned 120, and in his long career he garnered 10 Best In Specialty Show wins, 5 Best In Group wins, and 73 Best In Breed Wins. He finished out his wonderful career as the #6 AWS of all time, has sired 19 champion offspring, and is now the grandsire to countless champions as well. It's hard to find a competitive American Water Spaniel in the game today that doesn't trace back to Stray in some way or another, and he's been the foundation of my current breeding program and a large part of the reason my kennel is so successful. He's now lounging on my couch, making room for his grandchildren's children, but he'll always have a special place in my heart. happy :)

Ch Gunmetal Ziggy Stardust is a Stray grandson, and lived up to his grandfather's good name by winning in the ring consistently. Born on the last day of September 2006, he placed in breed, group, and specialty shows regularly. Ziggy finished his career as #13 on the All Time Top AWS list.

Ch Gunmetal Get Outta My Way, a Ziggy granddaughter, was a record breaking 92.5% SOP, and was the highest AWS on Skipwall for months. She was a consistent winner in the ring, ending her career as the #12 AWS of all-time, with 4 BIGs, 52 BOBs and 6 BISS.

Showing Policy:
Depending until the quality of the dog, I will show it actively until one of the following requirements are met:
1. The dog finishes his or her championship. Dogs I need immediately for breeding and do not seem like specials potential fall into this category.
2. The dog is 120 days old. Only the most successful, multiple best of breed winning, and hopefully group and show placing, dogs fall into this category.
3. I decide the dog will not finish. Usually my cut off is 80-90 days old, shown straight from 30 days without any points and without many RWB or RWD. If I buy a dog from you and you notice I have stopped actively showing him or her, this is probably the reason. I spend a long time picking judges and handlers and have finished lots of dogs, so chances are it’s not my fault that it doesn’t finish—it’s the quality of the dog itself.

Breeding Policy:
I tend to breed a bitch the first time at 30 days old, and will continue to breed her until she becomes obsolete. Sometimes I will use inside studs, sometimes outside. Please let me know if I used one of your studs, and you’d like a chance at 2nd POL. I’ll be happy to oblige the request.

Stud Policy:
Most of my boys are put up for stud at 30 days, no approval required, for $100. If the dog is an exceptional one, the price will be $200 and I may or may not require approval because I might like a chance at 2nd POL. Otherwise, 2nd POL is not required, although offers are always appreciated.

Reservation Policy:
I take puppy reservations from litters on the ground. E-mail me with an inquiry and I’ll let you know which ones are available to pick from when they settle.

Selling Policy:
I will have puppies and older dogs for sale occasionally. Any pup you buy from Gunmetal should be finishable. If you buy a dog from me and decide you know longer want it (finished or not), please let me know before you sell or FH it. Chances are I’ll let you do whatever you like with him or her, but give me the heads up nonetheless.

A big thanks to Ariel at Mr. Brightside, who helped me get started in AWS, and all my fellow dedicated AWS breeders for being supportive and helpful all the time happy :) Thanks, too, to anyone who has ever finished a dog for me--I wouldn't be where I am today without you guys happy :)

I'm always willing to help new people get started in this great breed, so contact me if you are interested.

Thank you to Logan Creek Kennels for the lovely banner happy :)
