I'm new to the trucking industry and just started work as a dispatche this week. One thing I don't get yet is how does the DOT know if a driver violates their hours of service? Does the DOT have someone constantly monitoring e-logs or something?

When they pull a truck over they have a right to look at the drivers logs, paper or electronic. Failure to maintain your logs is a big no no.

By the way, relatively recently, new eld violations came into force, which can greatly aggravate your life, so to prevent this from happening, just read these eld violations
You can also find information on the best ELDs here. Hope I helped you!
