What happens when you breed a dog back to his dam? Do you see issues in that litter immediately or does it affect later generations or both?

I've done it, and I just got not very good dogs. Every once in a while it will work for intensifying a trait though.

Did it only effect that litter or did it effect subsequent litters as well?

The pups have a high COI (coefficient of inbreeding?).

If you breed them to a dog with a low COI it tends to dissipate. If you breed them to another medium or high COI then the litter will be impacted.

Did you know?
In the American Kennel Club, a dog needs 15 points to become a Champion, with each win gaining anywhere from zero to five points depending on the number of dogs competing and the area where the show is held.
