Anyone else see this? I guess anyone can interpret it however they want, but it is always nice to have some extra knowledge. We don't feed any of these brands, but some of you might and might want to follow the study.

Yes I heard it and did some research and a couple of the reasoning were the peas and lentils in the foods ( yes I feed TOW so was important to me) as they carry lectins. There is research lectins are bad for us too. I’m doing research in what I should do but my dogs do get real food too so the effect of the dry may not be as horrible as it sounds when taken in context of the hundreds of thousands of dogs fed food everyday. Certainly don’t want my dog to get it but the odds are low. But if we think of it as humans our numbers are much worse for catching diabetes and cancers etc than our grandparents due to our diet, more processed, more gmo, more pesticides. Also how many really poor quality foods are on that list? That makes an interesting deduction too. It is Definately a concern but am not going to rush out and throw my food away as my dogs have done very well on TOW and occasionally some Zignature duck formula and some Merrick. For just a little extra special flavor. Just had my 6 yr old retired and spayed the vet was very impressed with all her pre surgery test results.

Some bigger picture articles We are at the tip of the iceberg with this information and we need more data. Progress cannot be made without making people aware of the suspected correlation, because when owners and vets are more aware they report more cases to the appropriate authorities = more data. The exact link is still unknown but in some cases there has been improvement of DCM severity after diet change, indicating there is a correlation in some dogs DCM diagnosis and their diet. Not every dog eating these brands of foods will develop DCM, it is most definitely a multifactorial disease process, but it is worth keeping a close eye on your dog if you are feeding these foods and making sure they are getting a yearly exam.
